Поправка к Закону о справедливых условиях труда 1938 [Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938]. Запрещал дискриминацию в оплате труда по признаку пола. Ввел положение, согласно которому мужчины и женщины, работающие в одной организации при одинаковых условиях, должны получать равную зарплату, если их работа требует одинаковых (сходных) усилий, навыков и ответственности. Отчасти заменяет поправку о равных правах [Equal Rights Amendment] к Конституции, предложенной Конгрессом в 1972 на ратификацию штатам. Отношение к этой поправке было крайне противоречивым, и она не прошла процесс ратификации штатами
